Supply Chain Management
Maui Sheep Milk New Zealand has developed a sophisticated supply chain management system tailored to the unique requirements of dairy sheep farming and production.
Maui's Supply Chain Management System:
1. Vertical Integration:
a. From Pasture to Product: Maui controls the entire process from sheep health and milk production to final product development and distribution. This vertical integration ensures quality control, traceability, and efficiency at every step.
2. Sheep Health and Milk Quality:
a. Breeding and Health Management: Utilising the Southern Cross® breed, Maui focuses on genetics for high milk yield and quality. Health and welfare of the sheep are paramount, with breeding programs designed to optimize these factors. Maui and its supplier farms strictly conduct regular health checks and vaccinations to prevent diseases and maintain herd health.
b. Milk Collection: Milk is collected with care to maintain its high nutritional value, with systems in place to manage collection, storage, and initial processing. Maui developed “My Maui” APP to track all collected sheep milk status and testing results to ensure the consistence of raw sheep milk quality.
c. Milk Quality: Maui’s sheep milk is renowned for its rich nutritional content, including higher levels of protein, calcium, and beneficial elements like Lactoferrin compared to cow or goat milk. Maui’s sheep milk naturally contains mostly A2 beta-casein, which is said to be easier to digest for some people, enhancing the product’s appeal for health-conscious consumers.
3. Quality Assurance and Quality Control:
a. Quality Assurance: At each stage of product development, strict quality control measures are implemented to maintain the premium quality of Maui’s products. Milk samples are collected at each farm during pickup, and each milk collection is tested by independent labs with raw milk and the final products to ensure that only the highest quality milk is delivered.
b. Quality Control: From milking through to processing, Maui implements stringent quality control measures to ensure the milk’s purity, nutritional value, and taste are preserved.
4. Manufacturing and Processing:
a. Efficient Processing: The system includes advanced processing facilities where milk is transformed into various products, with an emphasis on maintaining nutritional integrity.
b. Safety and Compliance: All processing adheres to high safety standards, with compliance to both local and international regulations. Maui Standard is what we adhere to, which is higher and stricter than common regulations and standards to deliver the best quality sheep milk to the world.
5. Distribution and Logistics:
a. Local and International Distribution: Maui manages both domestic and international logistics to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery. This includes partnerships with logistics providers to handle the complexities of exporting perishable goods.
6. Regulatory and Ethical Compliance:
a. Adherence to Standards: Maui’s products meet or exceed New Zealand’s stringent food safety and quality regulations, which are among the highest in the world, ensuring that quality is not just a claim but a verifiable fact.
7. Sustainability and Traceability:
a. Environmental Considerations: The supply chain is designed with sustainability in mind, reducing waste, optimising resource use, and ensuring practices align with environmental stewardship.
b. Traceability: Each product can be traced back to the farm and specific sheep, which is part of our commitment to transparency and consumer trust.
c. The AQ Assured™ mark, represents independent endorsement by AsureQuality, verification of Maui Milk’s commitment to providing consumers with trusted end-to-end supply chain information.
